Interprofessional collaboration in practice is an important strategy that can improve patient care and is an unavoidable way for reducing the global health workforce crisis. Interprofessional education (IPE) can help to acquire the skills needed to become part of a cooperative, hands-on health workforce. IPE occurs when students from two or more professions learn about, from and with each other to enable effective collaboration and improve health outcomes (WHO, 2010).

With the help of an online questionnaire, IPE approaches from four European Countries were obtained. The collection of the findings provides an overview of existing interventions and show how IPE can be structured and what good practice examples can look like. The exchange of experience across countries, universities and professions should facilitate the implementation of IPE.

The interventions provided on this website include collaborative learning of students of different healthcare professions. The primary settings are higher undergraduate or graduate education of health professionals (pre-licensure). Other professions than stated in the diagram above were active therapy, biomedical science, communication trainers, masseur, music therapy, orthopedagogy, orthopaedic technician, pharmacy, rehabilitation counsellor, sign language interpretation and special education.
